In 2011, following a short illness, (Norman) David Gilchrist passed away from metastatic melanoma. Through over 25 years experience in the music industry, David and his colleagues were heavily involved in the establishment and growth of the Golden Stave Foundation, a charity focused on raising much needed funds for children's charities since its inception.
Through his own experiences as a parent, David was also a strong advocate for the provision of support services for people with disabilities and their families.
Every year, on the anniversary of David's passing (October 24), his youngest son Adrian (a former staff member and current volunteer of Disability Sports Australia) raises much needed funds for not for profit organisations through his BALD GILLY campaign (https://www.facebook.com/BaldGilly), with the initial two fundraisers yielding more than $1000 each for the Melanoma Institute Australia. Having seen first hand through his work with Disability Sports Australia how important their work is to the lives of athletes with disabilities, Adrian now focuses his fundraising efforts on making a difference to athletes with disabilities through direct fundraising for Disability Sports Australia. In addition to your tax-deductible contribution (which, through this platform allows you to match your own personal donation with an equal amount pledged by corporate sponsors), I ask that any donors on social media follow the Bald Gilly facebookcampaign, as well as Disability Sports Australia on Facebook, twitter and instagram. Thank you for making a difference in David's memory.
